Silk is the nephew of the King of Drasnia. Like most of his family (and the better part of Drasnia, if one believes the hearsay) he was educated at their Academy in the fine art of being completely dishonest. Which is to say, being a spy, thief, assassin, or what-have-you. He's very, very good at it - quite possibly the best. He can control the muscles of his face to look like a different person, and has a number of aliases, his favourites being Radek of Boktor, and Ambar of Kotu. He is very, very good at what he does. He doesn't have any special powers - unless you count the ability to completely dominate the economy of a continent as a 'power.' Because in addition to being perhaps his world's premier spy etc., he is also without a doubt, its premier merchant - if such a pedantic word can be applied to what he does.

As if that all weren't enough, Silk has spent the last couple of decades in an on-again off-again party of heros, including such luminaries as Belgarath the Sorcerer, Polgara the Sorceress, and Belgarion, King of Riva, and many other titles he's just as soon forget. His expertise and extensive knowledge of the world have served not just once, but twice to help save the world.

Silk is sneaky, corrupt, and an all-around very bad man. He revels in intrigue, and glories in the murkiest aspects of life. He enjoys bargaining, and loves profit, and positively lives to win one on his opponent - whoever that may be at any given time. He's ruthless in business, whether that be the sort done in the market in the broad light of day, or the sort done in the back alleys at night, and he is nothing if not exceedingly competent. Silk is also exceedingly witty - sarcasm, and a caustic cyncism are just the tip of the iceberg. Despite all that, he is, and always has been, one of the good guys. He's just far more practical than your usual run of hero.

For Otherways: In between the Belgariad and the Malloreon, one of those periodic plagues swept Drasnia. Silk wasn't home at the time - places to go, people to be - but certain others were. The most unfortunate part of the plague, as far as he's concerned, is the deaths that left him King of Drasnia.
